An actress and singer, Maria Letizia Gorga, graduated from the International Actor’s school (Rome) under the direction of Alessandro Fersen and has studied singing and voice with internationally recognized teachers such as G.De Amicis-Roca, G.Jurova, S.Molik and T.Carcavallo. She sang the role of “Jesce sole”, and played “Capera” and “Zingara” in “La Gatta Cenerentola” of Roberto De Simone one of Italy’s major musicologist. She toured with this across Italy and Europe.
She studied at the Skola Dramaticeskogo Iskusstva in Moscow, where she trained with Maestro A. Vassiliev who subsequently directed her in “Ciascuno a suo modo” by Pirandello, where she played Delia Morello (Teatro Ateneo, Rome) and “Edipo re” by Sofocle in the role of Giocasta (Italian tour). She has spent the last 8 years playing the leading role of Amelia Rosselli in “Contadini del Sud”, a story based on the romance between Rocco Scotellaro and Amelia Rosselli, directed by U. Pesce. This has played at festivals throughout the world (Italy, Australia, SouthAmerica, Europe). In 1996 she started a long collaboration with Tato Russo and the Teatro Bellini of Naples in several works: “The musical Mas’aniello”, Shakespeare’s “Comedy of Errors” and B.Brecht’s “The Three Penny Opera”. In 1995 she received the award of Best Leading Actress for “Controfigura” by K.Ippaso and G.Raggi, directed by Rita Tamburi with Franco Castellano, created for the Festival of Fondi.
Maria Letizia was in Sofocle’s and Ritzos’ “Aiace”, playing the role of Tecmessa, directed by P.Gazzara in Tindari (Sicily, Italy). In 2000 she made her debut with her solo recital “Osceno Novecento”, written and directed by P. Ammendola, a recital about last century’s prohibited songs. She has been touring major Italian and European cities with “Don Giovanni” by Tirso de Molina, playing the role of Donna Anna, directed by M.Scaparro, with Peppe Barra (Paris and Almagro.)
Following the great success of “Coppie in multiproprietà” and “Nemici di Casa” (Teatro Manzoni , Milano; Salone Margherita, Rome), she is now touring Europe with a recital “Avec le temps, Dalida”, based on the life and songs of the late artist, written and directed by P.Ammendola. She played the role of the Angel in “La cantata dei pastori”, directed by and starring Peppe Barra (Trianon Theatre, Neaples; Strehler, Milan; Argentina, Rome and major European theatres) Later works are: “The Merchant of Venice” with Corrado Pani, directed by M.M.Giorgetti (Festivals of Borgio Verezzi and Taormina); “Decameron” with P.Barra; “Satyricon” with Giorgio Albertazzi and Michele Placido, directed by Renato Giordano (Festivals “La Versiliana” and “Taormina Arte”); Goldoni’s “Impresario delle Smirne” with G.Palmieri, directed by M.Belli ( Borgio Verezzi Festival); “Amleto” with M.Nisi, directed by P.G.Piccoli; Euripide’s “Le Fenicie”, playing the leading role with Giuseppe and Micol Palmieri, directed by G.Argiro’ for the Festival of Magna Grecia, “Cena a sorpresa” by Neil Simon, with Pambieri, Zanetti and Tanzi, directed by G. Lombardo Radice (Italian tour).
She was Plotina in the comedy “Memorie di Adriano” by M.Yourcenar with G.Albertazzi, directed by Maurizio Scaparro for theatre and television (RAI 3). Alongside her extensive theatrical career, she has also worked in television and cinema, collaborating with several directors: F.Laudadio, A.Balducci, R.Izzo, M.Ponzi, L.Odorisio, V.Terracciano, L.Parisi, P.Ammendola, R.Donna, A.Inturri, among the others. Maria Letizia has been featured on CDs such as “Cantata dei pastori”, “Decamerone” with Peppe Barra, music by Lino Cannavacciuolo, “Satyricon”, music by M.Rivera and G. Cohen, and “Amleto”, music by P.Valtinoni. Compagnia delle Nuove Indye has produced Maria Letizia’s dvd of “Avec le temps, Dalida” and cd “Viaggio intimo con Mercedes Sosa”, which are now on nationwide release. Currently, she is touring Italy with the show “Uscirò dalla tua vita in taxi” di Waterhouse e Hall, with Castellano e Nisi, directed by P.Ammendola and “Caligola” by Camus with M.Morgese directed by P.Micol.
She contributed to Paolo Sorrentino's last movie "Youth" as actress and singer. She is now working with the theatre group Fura dels Baus in the show "Terrista" written by Pesce e Soler and directed by Pera Tantiña.
